The Philippine Embassy commemorated the 30th Anniversary of EDSA People Power at the Embassy premises with a series of films on the events that happened during the EDSA People Power Revolution.
From 22-26 February, the films were shown at the reception area of the Consular Section of the Embassy to remind the viewers that the Filipino people can achieve a peaceful transition from dictatorship.
The films showed the scenes and key people of the 1986 EDSA People Power, a historic moment that transpired 30 years ago when democracy was restored in the Philippines, and the charismatic and unassuming housewife of the late Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr. and mother of the current President, Mrs. Corazon C. Aquino, became the first woman President of the nation. President Corazon Aquino would later become an international icon of democracy and a peaceful revolution.
Switzerland was one of the first countries to recognize and lend support to the Corazon Aquino Government in 1986. President Aquino also visited Switzerland in 1988.
Since the EDSA Revolution, the Philippines and Switzerland have closely cooperated in the recovery of ill-gotten wealth which resulted in the return of USD684 million to the country.
Embassy personnel hold a flag raising ceremony at the Consular Area to kickoff the weeklong commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the
EDSA People Power Revolution.
The series of films on the events that happened during the EDSA People Power Revolution are made available to clients at the Consular Section of the Embassy.
