SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION ADVISES THE PUBLIC ON ILLEGAL INVESTMENT-TAKING ACTIVITIES CIRCULATING PUBLICLY AND ONLINE
The Embassy informs the public that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of the Philippines has posted several advisories on its website warning the public about illegal investment-taking activities circulating publicly and online.
The SEC advisories were released in line with its efforts to inform the public to be more cautious about their investments in light of the rampant Ponzi schemes and/or illegal investment schemes circulating publicly and online. The advisories pertain to both Registered entities, which were registered with the SEC, but not authorized to solicit investment from the public as it has not secured the necessary secondary license or permit from the SEC as required under Sections 8 and 12 of the Securities Regulation Code (SRC); and Unregistered entities, which are neither registered as a corporation or as a partnership with the SEC nor issued secondary licenses as brokers and/or dealers of securities, dealers in government securities, investment advisers of an investment company, investment house and transfer agent.
The public is advised to view SEC’s advisories on the various illegal investment-taking activities at: http://www.sec.gov.ph/public-information-2/investors-education-and-information/advisories-and-notices/.
