WARNING TO TRAVELLERS
ON BRINGING RESTRICTED ITEMS INTO HONG KONG
24 May 2019 – The Philippine Embassy wishes to reiterate the warning issued by the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong to all Filipino travellers, workers, and/or residents transiting or entering Hong Kong from bringing restricted items, particularly stunning devices, in their hand-carried or even in checked-in luggage.
Items, including stun guns, pepper spray and other devices such as tear gas, bullets, extendible batons, flick knives and knuckler dusters are considered “prohibited weapons” or arms in Hong Kong, and are therefore restricted under either the Aviation Security Ordinance or the Firearms and Ammunition Ordinance of Hong Kong.
The unlicensed possession of these restricted weapons by offenders, if convicted, carries a maximum sentence of 14 years of imprisonment and a fine of HK$100,000.
Hong Kong authorities are strict with the enforcement of the said Ordinance. All hand-carried and checked-in luggage of passengers are subjected to security screening at the airport.
Twenty (20) Filipinos, mostly transiting via Hong Kong International Airport, have been penalized in 2018 for possession of arms without licence.
