President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. arrived in Switzerland on 15 January 2023 to participate at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos from 16-19 January 2023.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. concluded his visit by meeting with the Filipino community at The Circle Convention Center Zürich Airport on 20 January 2023. President Marcos and First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos were warmly welcomed by close to 600 Filipino community members from Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Faroe Islands, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom.
Chargé d’Affaires, ad interim, of the Philippine Embassy in Switzerland welcomed the President and expressed the shared aspiration of the Filipino communities in Switzerland, Liechtenstein and other neighbouring countries for a resilient and ascendant Philippines engaging the West on equal footing - proudly standing shoulder to shoulder with other nations.
In his address, President Marcos thanked the communities for their support of his candidacy during the presidential elections and for trusting in his leadership. He took pride and expressed his appreciation to the Filipino community for being ambassadors upholding good qualities and work ethics of Filipinos overseas.
President Marcos also emphasized the importance of participation in international conferences such as the World Economic Forum and shared his optimism that the message the Philippine delegation brought to the forum was well received.
The President, his delegation, and the Filipinos were serenated by Switzerland-based artists Juliet Weber, Eunice Zingg, Cecile Centeno, and child crooner Aivan Mendoza.
President Marcos was accompanied by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Speaker Martin Romualdez, Senator Mark Villar, Migrant Workers Secretary Susan Ople, Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, National Economic and Development Authority Secretary Arsenio Balisacan, Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo, Jr. and his official delegation.
