The Tambayan Pinoy-Swiss (TPS) Channel organized on 08 August in Berne a Meet & Grill event for second generation Swiss Filipinos.
The event aimed to provide a platform for second generation Swiss Filipinos to meet their peers and get to know one another, meet new friends, see old ones, and discover and connect with their Philippine roots in a day of fun, relaxation, and informal party atmosphere.
Second generation Swiss Filipinos from various cantons across Switzerland, including Winterthur, Aargau, Zὒrich, Vaud, Fribourg, Basel, Geneva and Berne, attended the event and readily participated in games, including the Trivia on the Philippines that the TPS team prepared. While most of the Swiss Pinoys had difficulty guessing the right answers, the trivia became an opportune occasion for them to learn more about the Philippines.
The attendees gave positive feedback on the event and welcomed the initiative by TPS to gather them together. “This gives us an opportunity to meet and bond with other second generation Filipinos in Switzerland,” one attendee commented.
The Meet and Grill event was the first of its kind organized by the TPS team, and perhaps the first of its kind organized for the Second Generation Swiss Filipinos across Switzerland. By bringing together second generation Swiss Filipinos, the TPS team gave them opportunity to bond, forge friendship, and discover the ties that bind them together as Filipinos.
“We, at TPS, want the second generation to enjoy one another’s company and wish that one day, this generation would say, ‘It all started with TPS – giving us the occasion to bond, forge friendship, and be an inspiration for one another to become the best persons that we can be’,” says the TPS team.
Indeed, the TPS can only provide the second generation encouragement and support for them to make even a little contribution to the Philippines, and leave an imprint of themselves in our country’s future. Hopefully, the event will just be the beginning of their more active engagement with one another and with activities that promote awareness on the best of the Philippines.
