Annual General Assembly in Zủrich on 03 May 2017
Ambassador Jimeno presented the priorities of the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte as contained in the administration’s ten-point economic agenda. He said that achieving inclusive growth is the centerpiece of President Duterte’s administration, and explained that the administration plans to achieve this by focusing the government’s fiscal policy on increased social expenditure, accelerating strategic infrastructure development, (particularly in the Visayan and Mindanao regions) pursuing tax reforms; fighting corruption; and reviewing certain constitutional provisions to promote investments in the country.
The Ambassador also discussed the main drivers of growth of the Philippine economy in 2016 and the prospects for growth in the near- and medium-term. He assured the Swiss business community that the Philippines is right on track in its economic agenda, assured them that the Philippines remains a safe destination for investments, and encouraged them to help achieve the government’s economic goals by investing more in other potential centers of growth, such as the Mindanao region, particularly in infrastructure development.
The event was attended by Ambassadors and other officials from nine (9) Asian countries, representatives from Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), and members of the Swiss business community. END
